What is an Earthquake?

Earthquake is made up of two words one is the earth which means land and second is quake which means vibration or shivering. This means the shivering of the ground is called Earthquake.

Earthquake is one of the most devastating natural disasters in which the surface of earth vibrates suddenly.

At the same time when an earthquake comes, the earth starts shivering, landslide happens, tsunami comes, the volcano explodes, etc.

Causes of Earthquake

An earthquake occurs due to two reasons which can be natural or manmade.

Natural Causes

Earth is made up of a total of four layers and when these layers move from their place which is known as earthquake or waves generated in the lower surface of the earth give birth to the earthquake.

Volcano erupts due to an increase in temperature of the earth causing an earthquake.

The earthquake also occurs by slipping or sliding of rocks and mountainous or hilly areas are prone to earthquakes.

Manmade causes of Earthquake

Manmade causes of earthquakes are nuclear tests, nuclear bomb explosion, construction of huge dams, and extraction of oil from the earth.

Measurement of Earthquake

Earthquake intensity is measured in the Richter scale and the device is called Seismometer. Normal reading measured in the seismometer is 2-3. Reading measured more than 7 of the intensity of the earthquake cause damage and is very dangerous and can destroy everything.

Prevention from Earthquake

The impact in the inner layer of earth cannot be prevented but if we make efforts in the right direction its effects can be reduced. By installing measuring instruments that warns us before the earthquake comes.
